Frequently asked questions
- What is a WHOIS lookup?
- A WHOIS lookup retrieves the public registration record of a domain name: who the registrar is, when the domain was created, when it expires, its status codes and its name servers. This tool queries registry RDAP services, the modern successor of the WHOIS protocol, so the data comes straight from the authoritative registry.
- How is domain age calculated?
- Domain age is the time elapsed since the registration date recorded by the registry. Older domains are often considered more trustworthy by search engines, which makes domain age a common signal in SEO research and expired-domain hunting.
- Why do some domains show no result?
- If a domain is not registered, the registry returns no record — it may be available to buy. A few country-code TLDs do not offer a public RDAP service yet; lookups for those extensions are not supported at the moment.
- Is the data real-time?
- Results are fetched live from the registry and cached for up to 24 hours. Registration changes such as a renewal or transfer typically show up here within a day.
